A number of features that relate to a company’s risk management responsibilities have been noted previously and can be used as an immediate alert or archived for proof of mitigation under the obligations of both the Duty of Care (Manslaughter) Act and Health and Safety acts.

Employee Assistance
Live on-screen detailed street level mapping assists drivers when they are lost or broken down enabling team members to actively support drivers in difficulty.

Employee Support
Live monitoring is used to support drivers in terms of late deliveries and unforeseen scheduling problems. Head office or central depot CRM can keep the customer accurately informed of the delivery vehicle whereabouts, allowing the driver to concentrate on making the delivery and get back on schedule, thus avoiding customer abuse and reducing driver stress levels.

Speed Alerts
When a vehicle exceeds pre-set speeds the instant alert and exception reporting facility helps management to exercise their responsibilities to:

- Reduce excessive speeding to reduce running and maintenance costs
- Address road safety and mitigate the chances of accidents occurring.

Driver Profiles
(If fitted) mitigate both employer and employee obligations to control driver performance, and provide a relative assessment of the fleet drivers. Company’s are able to address if erratic driving results from the drivers abilities and attitudes, or poor job planning resulting in too many jobs and too little time to do them.

Journey Reports
Provide records in perpetuity of driver performance and conduct of journeys. The archived records mitigate the employer’s responsibilities to monitor, control, and record driver performance to ensure acceptable use of company vehicles. The drivers are also supported by the information in case of accidents, speed traps or disputes with third parties.

Exception Alerts and Reporting
Provide instant management reporting to control excessive employee/driver activities and vehicle security alerts to prevent theft. Alerts can also warn the company that lone or remote workers may be at risk.

Inland Revenue
The system can differentiate between private and business mileage through reports which may be used as a basis for proving to the Inland Revenue that vehicles are not used outside of working hours. This will assist with the new Van tax legislation which came into force in April 2007 which requires documentary evidence to prove vehicles are only used for business.
